Inadvertent diagnosis of male infertility through genealogical DNA testing.

چکیده
T he potentially informative relationship between Y chromosomes and patrilinearly inherited surnames has led to a major expansion in the number of commercial companies offering Y chromosomal DNA polymorphism analysis to members of the public; because of the geographical specificity of Y chromosomal types, many companies also offer to deduce ‘‘ancestry’’. As the number of markers used in these tests increases, so does the probability of inadvertently diagnosing male infertility through the detection of Y chromosomal deletions. Using commercially typed Y markers, we here report the ascertainment of such deletions in general population samples.

I-2: Current Evaluation and Treatment of The Infertile Men
Background Fifty percent of infertility involves a male factor. The evaluation begins with a history, physical exam and semen analysis x 2. The history should include questions about exposure to gonad toxins. The differential diagnosis of no ejaculate includes; retrograde ejaculation, failure of ejaculation (rare), failure of emission and psychogenic. Evaluation of absence of the vas deferens w...
متن کاملInadvertent transgenesis by conventional ICSI in mice.
BACKGROUND ICSI is a relatively new treatment for human male-related infertility, as well as an efficient method for the production of transgenic animals by injecting into the oocyte sperm previously incubated with foreign DNA. As semen samples collected in human infertility clinics are frequently contaminated with bacteria, one risk associated with the ICSI procedure is the injection of foreig...
متن کاملI-37: Genome Instability and DNA Damage in Male Somatic and Germ Cells Expressed as Chromosomal Microdeletion and Aneuploidy Is A Major Cause of Male Infertility
Background: Sperm chromatin insufficiencies leading to low sperm count and quality, infertility and transmission of chromosomal microdeletion and aneuploidies to next generations can be due to exposure to environmental pollutions, chemicals and natural or manmade ionizing radiation. In this project which has continued for more than 10 years and is unique in many technical aspects in Iran and in...
متن کاملShould sperm DNA fragmentation testing be included in the male infertility work-up?
A response to the editorial 'Are we ready to incorporate sperm DNA fragmentation testing into our male infertility work-up? A plea for more robust studies' by Erma Drobnis and Martin Johnson.
متن کاملShould sperm DNA fragmentation testing be routinely used in assessing male infertility?
Semen analysis (SA) is the cornerstone for male infertility evaluation. Variations in sperm quantity and quality may make SA an unreliable decision-making tool in providing an insight of infertility (1). Consequently, efforts have been made to upgrade techniques of male fertility analysis. In recent times, primary investigative techniques have centered around assessing sperm capacity, sperm fun...
